We welcome volunteers from all different professional backgrounds, and no AI expertise is needed.
What our volunteers do
Protests
Coming together to protest shows other Americans that people agree with them that AI development needs to stop, and it helps us draw attention to policy proposals that could protect us from out-of-control AI development.
Questioning your representatives
Go to a town hall, a debate, or anywhere elected officials and candidates for public office show up, and show them their constituents care about this issue. It makes a real impression on these candidates and helps move the political environment towards pausing AI development.
Local groups
Join your local group. Local groups are adaptable and grassroots, and use their knowledge of their own communities to build widespread, durable support for pausing AI development.
How to join
- Fill in the volunteer application.
- Our organizing director follows up within a few days.
- Once you’re in, you get an invite to our Discord.
Start a local group
Starting a local group is a higher-commitment way to get involved with People for a Pause. Prospective group leads submit a plan to us about how to help us get to a pause in their local community, and we will workshop it with them.
Contact our organizing director at felix@pfpai.org to learn more. A detailed guide about how to start a local group will be posted here soon.
